From Scrubs to Saddles - Meet "The Travelin' Cowgirl"

Hey y’all, I’m so glad you’re here! Whether you stumbled across my page while chasing a cozy stay, looking for a new coffee spot, or scrolling for a little western lifestyle vibe it's time I re-introduced myself — I’m Niesha, the gal behind The Travelin’ Cowgirl. I’m a born-and-raised Idaho girl who’s happiest in cowgirl boots, with a strong cup of coffee in hand and and dirt on my boots after a good ride.

But there's more to the story than just sunsets and saddle rides; so let’s rewind.

From the Coast to the Countryside

For three years, I was living in San Diego as the Navy was part of my past life, soaking in the coastal sunshine, working at a Level I Trauma Center in San Diego, working with a non-profit called Saddles In Service, and chasing a big city pace. It was beautiful in so many ways, but something kept tugging at my heart to come home. So I followed that feeling, I applied for Nursing school and when I got accepted to Boise State, I packed up, and made the move back to Idaho. Since then, I’ve been rediscovering my roots; trading beach views for mountain mornings and reconnecting with the land and lifestyle that raised me. It’s here in the country living life in it's most simplest form, that I feel most like myself.

From Scrubs to Saddles: My Nursing Journey

The past 4 years has been one wild ride. I recently graduated from nursing school (cue the confetti and caffeine.) Through school, I worked shifts in the ER as an EMT. Through my preceptorship I was happy to learn more about Critical Care in the Critical Care Float Pool which focused on Neuro Surgical Trauma, Cardiovascular ICU, Medical ICU, and ER, and CVICU. Every patient, every alarm, and every quiet 6 a.m. coffee break deepened my love for nursing and reminded me why I chose this path.

It wasn’t always easy balancing the demands of school with my life outside the hospital, but I stayed grounded by leaning into the things that make me me: faith, fresh air, horses, and finding joy in simple places.

Why I Created "The Travelin’ Cowgirl"

I started The Travelin’ Cowgirl as a way to bring all these pieces of my life together; to show that you can chase your career and your cowgirl dreams, sip oat milk lattes and ride horses, be both adventurous and grounded. I believe in living with intention, sharing real stories, and inspiring others to find freedom in the things that light them up. I’m passionate about slow, intentional living and capturing the beauty of a grounded lifestyle rooted in the country.
